The AEROLITE-103 Takes On Hurricane Charlie
Two Aerolite-103 owners breathe a sigh of relief after learning that their small ultralight aircraft have survived Hurricane Charlie. The fierce storm struck the state of Florida on Friday the 13th, August 2004. The initial reports were that all aircraft and the airport itself were a total lost, but to the surprise of both Terry Raber (designer of the aerolite-103) and John Hatfield (aerolite owner & pilot); discovered that both of their Aerolites had survived Hurricane Charlie, which struck the Charlotte County Airport. Each plane "miraculously" only received minor damage. Both Aerolites shared the same hanger, were adjacent to several other general aviation aircraft, and hangers that were totally destroyed by the 120+ mph winds. As can be seen by the photos of the hanger and airport in which they were based out of; both Aerolites with a little luck thrown in have survived Charlie's devastation.
